Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) formed to support the horses and officers of the Lexington, KY mounted unit and their outreach training efforts to mounted officers throughout North America with the annual National Mounted Police Colloquium. The Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police seeks cash donations to help support the unit's purchase of horses, equipment, and to pay for training. We also accept donations of goods and services. Currently we seek donations of items to distribute to officers who attend our annual National Mounted Police Colloquium and items for the raffle used to raise money for the Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police.
Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police also accepts donations of horses, but only after a pre-test and six-month trial period. Horses must be at least 4 years old, sound of mind and body, draft cross or large geldings at least 16 hands and be of quiet dispositions. To remain in public service horses in the unit must undergo rigorous and continuous training.
The Lexington Police Mounted Unit has several items it needs. If you can offer any of these items or would like to donate toward the purchase of these items, please call 859-258-3868. The unit is located in Lexington, KY. All donations are tax deductible under Federal 501(c)(3) statutes.
Current needs:
Hay (grass or alfalfa grass mix in bales; 3,500 for a year's supply).
Lumber for building obstacles.
Video system for the barn.
English saddles (black) and saddle pads.
